Regular meeting of the city council present Mayor Thornton,
Councilmen Curran, Parsons, Pozzi, Scott, Shaffer, Strain,
Woodworth;
Motion made duly seconded and passed to approve the minutes
I of the last regular meeting as printed.
Mayor Thornton announced and declared the hearing open on
Sky Hill Plat , no one had any objections so hearing was de-
clared closed and the ordinance read for„approving the said
plat of portions of land in the City of Kent , Motion made
and duly seconded and passed to pass and' adopt. ordinance no.
1010.
Ordinance No. 1011 read and by motion passed for the vacation
of 12. 5 ft. of the east-side of Kennebeck, in Block 6, W C I Col
Knob Hill Addition to Kent.lying north of Guiberson Street.
Mr. $herwood reported to the council that Mr. Waller would
like to have a street, projected some 1$00.ft. east from the
East Hiway to the foot of the hill, this would be the extension
of the Taylor Road and would be a 60ft . rightaway. Motion
made and passed to accept the proposed street if the Planning
Commission approved the dedication as recommended by the
city engineer, from Mr. Waller and Turner.
Councilman Woodworth made a motion and passed to have the
clerk write a letter to the Highway Department"Mr.McKay"
to have his engineers erect two directional signsp for the
purpose of directing people to the businees district of Kent
from highway 99. One sign to be erected at the Reith. Rd.
and 99 and one to be erected at the Kent Des Moines road
and 99 at Midway. ,
Councilman Pozzi made a report on the . Library Site that is
proposed to be purchased, from Pederson. and Edmundson, if
condemnation proceedure is used it will take about four to
six months and the cost could be $400.00 to $1,000.00, and
Mr. Pozzi contacted Mr. Pederson and he said he would sell
his share for $13 ,950.00, and Mr. Edmundson said he was not

w CI mind. , contacted Mr. Bauer and he said that he would sell
" N his property ,at second and Titus for $25,000.00, contacted
00 the Library Board and they said they would OK the Bauer

property, now I would like to have a recess on this question
OE for about five minutes, for an ill out discussion of the
council.
Reconvened;
Councilman Pozzi reported to the council that the Library
Committee would like to have till the regular -meeting in
February, that would be the second meeting,or Feb.16th. to
negotiate for a library site. Motion made and duly seconded
to have the Library Committee negotiate for a Library site,
they shall have upto February 16th. ,motion carried all voted
yea except Curran voting ney.
Councilman Strain had a request for a street light at 621
West Gowe Street , and .concured with the request that a light
was needed at this point, motion made and passed to have
the clerk write a letter to the Power Company authorizing
them to install the said street light.
Councilman Curran made a report of the progress on the
Public Housing Project ,and said that he had several meetings
and the draft was on its way to the San Francisco office for
approval, but a complete report should be avaiable for the
next regular meeting.
Councilman Curran_'also reported 'on some legislative bills
that were going ,to ,be presented at the session of the
Legislatures such as the dnnbkation bill, and Planning bill.
Councilman Shaffer reported that there was going to be a m
meeting at Olympia on friday and he was going to attend,
wanted to know if any of the rest would like to go.
Shaffer also made a report on a letter he had received from
Mr. Dolman, ..pertaining to the sewer and water main that they are
installing on the west side, in regard to warrents and bonds

tanks are being installed ,and the contractors would like to
have more insurance that they will get their money, and the
bank would like to know if the City would step in on the back-
ing in about three years, and the total amount for the sewer
and water installation is now in the figure of $400,000.00
and over, when it started it was at a figure of about , !
$130,000.00, and Mr. Shaffer recomerided that the finance
committee and the City Attorney work with Mr. Dolman And Cole
on the financing of the project , and I would like to hear from
Mr. Dolman. Mr. Dolman stated that the figure was getting to
large for the contractors to carry, and the Bank would like
the city to back the warrents that they would issue on the job.
Letter read from Washington State Economic Development
stating that our Federal matching funds will be a little larg-
er that anticipated on account of two cities with drew. (,
Letter read from Mr. Towne at 216 4th. Ave. South, comending
the council on there not to hasty action on condemnation on
a Library site.
Letter read from Mr. Howard Odell Chairman of the Board of
County Commissioners in regard to incinerators in King County
for garbage disposal, our letter was refered to, Mr. Mayes Evans.
and we should get im touch with Mr. Evans., Councilman Pozzi
said he would contact Mr. Evans on the matter.
Complaint, received from Valley Construction, and served on the
Mayor for damages, was by motion passed,refered to the City
Attorney.
Petition read for the vacation of an alley in Block 17,
W.C. I .CO$s Knob Hill Addn. Mr. Sherwood could see no objections
in vacating the alley. Motion passed to allow the vacation after
Planning Commission o.k► ed, and for the City Attorney to draw
necessary papers to have a hearing on same.
Resolution No. 405 by motion adopted to set a hearing for
annexation of certain lands contiguous to the city the date
and place February 16th. at the city hall.
Mr. Alibright and Mr. Koch had some objections to the annex-
ation along the west highway, and they were instructed to a
appear at the hearing and state their objections.
Mr. Eckland wanted to know what happened to his claim on
the flooding of his basement, and he was informed that this
body has nothing to do with the claim because it ',[as in the
hands of our insurance people.
Councilman Pozzi brought up the matter of the timber cruse
in our water sheds and that at this time there was a good
market for logs.Mr. Curran said he would take this up with
Mr. Bigley the timber cruser that would know the right time
and what trees to sell.
Nor. Chet Wood and Mr. Walt Ramsay of hill & Ingman presentd
the Mayor and City Counci_1 ,with a bronze Plaque with the names
of the Mayor at the time of the Water job and the councilmen
in office and the water superintendent, this placque to be
fastened to the pump house on Reiten Rd.NIayor Thornton accepted
the placque in the name of the city of' 1'.ent , and Councilman
Curran the chairman of the water committee made an acceptance
speech and thanked the Company of Hill & Ingman for gesture of
the presentation of the bronze placque.
Motion made and passed to have the Treasurer invest 3/4 of
the Library Bond issue in Government 90 day notes.
