Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Thornton',
Councilman Parsons, Pozzi, Scott , Shaffer, Strain, Woodworth;
Minutes approved as printed of the last regular meeting;
Carter Oil Co would like to have the city acceptaand easement
i for their sewer line that they are extending on the Black
Diamond Road, " and extension of the City Sewer from the
IGA Store" Mr. Sherwood reporting this request stated that
they would like and early acceptance of the easement.
Motion duly made and seconded and passed to accept the
easement from Carter Oil Co , under the specifications of
the City Engineer.
Motion passed to have the City Engineer and the City
Attorney get together with Mr. Janke and clear up the
agreenent on the water main and -charge the property on
the north side of the main 42.00 per ft. and adjust Mr.
Janke' s payment on his agreement.
Mr. Sherwood announced to the council that a map that
they have recommended for the council Room will cost $16o.00.
so therefore I will proceed to procure the same.
Councilman Woodworth announced that the cross-walk sign
• was not taken care of yet but soon.
Councilman Scott made a report on the pump at the lift station
that needed repair and stated that Dravis Inc. of Tacoma, would
pull the pump-and repair it and replace for $615.00, Motion
duly made by Scott and seconded and passed to have the pump
repaired by -Dravis Co of Tacoma.

Councilman Strain made a motion to have •a street light
placed on Marion Street, One on Reiten Road on a pole across
from the - pump house, and a request for the Power Company to
replace the two lights on Reiten Road that they removed
when the r6ad was widened. Motion carried.
Councilman Strain reported that on the Lighting Improvement
operation that the Power Company Submittle was resubmitted
to our Planners for recomendation and also a letter was
written to the Association of Washington Cities requesting
proceedure of other cities on a street light program.
Motion duly made and seconded to have a public " Library
Bond Sale" and bids to be opened at $'Oclock P.M. on Monday
October 6th. 1958, at the Council Chambers in the City Hall,
Kent, -Washington. The above motiom made by Shaffer, seconded
by Strain, was duly adopted by vote of 6 yes, 0 no.
Letter read from J.R.Cole & C.E.Dolman requesting the exten-
sion of the cityts water system into the west annexation area.
In the event that the total cost of such extension of water
mains be borne by the writers, we further request a program
of payoff be devised wherein property owners, who at a later
date advantage of the mains installed. may be allowed to
reimburse us proportionately at such time as they hook on.
Letter refered to the water committee for report.
Letter read from Calvin Schmid of the State Census Board
stating that the year of 1959 was the last year for a census
take before the regular 10 year count of the Government, that
will be in 1960. Motion duly made and seconded and passed to
take a Census in the year of 1959 under the State Census
Board.
Letter from E.E.Miller & Marie Miller his wife requested a
release of easement of water line through Millers' Third Addn.
on account of granting a new one. Motion made and passed to
release the easement as they requested.
Mr. Wieser was at the meeting and requested of the council
that they back a program to have the Telephone Co give us
direct dialing to Seattle. Motion duly made and passed to
have the clerk write a letter to the local manager of the
Telephone Co, requesting the procedure to obtain this services
and also write letters to the JC' s and th�, Chamber of Commerce

Mayor Thornton announced that there would be a meeting of the
council as a whole on Tues. at 7 PM. Sept 9. for the planning
of the budget for 1959, this to be an informal meeting prior
to the preliminary hearing on the regular ijeeting night of
Sept. 15th.
Sick leave that was drawn by Councilman Parsons was discussed
at various angles. Motion duly made and seconded and passed to
adopt the program as presented and printed."Sick Leave Procedure
-City of Kent Employees in Appointive Positions" and to have the
City Attorney set up the manuals on the administration and
prodedure.
City Engineer Mr. Sherwood nbeommended to the •council that a
five foot walk would be appropitatin the western section of
the city instead of a six foot wide walk like was used in the
business section of our city.
Motion passed to have the city engineer meet with the City A
Attorney on the five foot walks in the west area.
City Engineer rs letter of recommendation to the council that
the _15% withheld on the Russ Davis Concrete Construction Co of
Tacoma be paid in the amount of $4, 597.03.
I hereby move the the 15% due Russ Davis Conctbte Construction
Co of Tacoma be paid on contract two in Local Improvement Dist.
No. 237 of the City, that the city issue warrants on Local
Improvement District Not. 237 Fund of the City in the amount of
$ 4, 597.03 to provide funds to pay such payment, that said
warrants be in the following numbers and denominations.
Warrant No. 64 in tho amount of 1,000.00

The above motion made by Pozzi seconded by Parsons was duly
adopted by vote of 6 yes. No. 0.
