Minutes approved as printed of the last regular meeting;
Library annual report read and by motion placed on file;
Clerk' s report presented and by motion placed on file;
City Engineer reported that he checked with the County
on streets and roads within,and boundries of annexed land
as to including them in the annexation.
Mr. Sherwood also made a report to the council that the
Pittsburgh Tank Company was starting work on the installation
of the 125900'".gallon elevated tank for our wter system on the
East Hill.
Councilman Scott reported that the repair on the trunk sewer
was going along fine and they were ready to start at the next
hole.
Motion passed to instruct Valley Construction Co to proceed
with the repair and use cedar matting as was done on the break
repair on the west side of the highway.
Councilman Pozzi reported to the council that he will have a
report on street bonds at the next meeting.
Councilman Curran advised the council of a meeting with the
Thomas water committee, they requested water form the city.
Mr. Curran stated that the city would supply the water, if
they laid their mains from the city limits, and had a master
meter on same. and the City Engineer to supply them with more
data on. the. transaction.
Motion passed to install the 61, water pipe line for Mr. Omey
on the Mollce Road, $4.00 per foot to be placed in escrow with
the clerk and other amounts necessary for the job, before
construction is started.
Mr. Curran read a letter of request for an extension of 30
days on the contract of F.M.Taylor. Mr.• Taylor stated that the
controls for the pump station was very slow iiindelivery. Motion
passed to grant Mr. Taylor an extension on the contract no. VII.
Councilman Strain reported-that the new,.street light system
would amount $202 000.00. for>the whole cit3 ,.—
Councilman Shaffer requested•'•the olerk by mot!16�-,PAssed to
send for two booklets on city government.
Motion passed to make March 20th. the effective date for
the Cloverdale Annexation.
Ordinance No.971 by motion passed to annex certain lands
contiguous to the city, Cloverdale addition, and the N.W 4 of
section 7 twp.22 n. R. 5, east W.M. . " Shinnts " .
Resolution No. 972 passed. the vote of the council to
vacate certain Lane, and hold a hearing on the ' 17th. day of
March at $?oclock P.M. -at City Hall.
Ordinance No. 972 vacating streets and alleys in Knob Hill
Addn. to Kent adopted by motion passed.
Councilman Woodworth made a motion and passed to call for
bids for two police cars as outlined by the chief -of police.
Motion passed to have the Mayor & Clerk sign the agreement
between the City of Kent and the King County Sheriffs Office
for prisoners sent to the county jail by the Police Judge.
Councilman Woodworth made a motion and passed to write a
letter to the State District Engineer Mr. McKay in regard to
having buttons and Merury-Vapor lights placed on Canyon Drive
as recommended in the report of the Chief of Police.
Mayor Thornton declared a hearing opened on the vacation of
streets and alleys in Knob Hill Addn. no one appeared against
the vacation the Ordinance No. 972 was read and passed.
Mr. Cavanaggh City Treasurer presented letter with a statment
of how much was paid on LID 236 without interest, $3402.67
and remained unpaid $259317.59• Motion passed to have the city
attorney draw a bond ordinance for the balance of $25,317.59.
Letter read from the hent Community Safety Council urging
the council to construct a sidewalk on the south side of games
Street, from Clark Ave. to North Central Ave. Motion pased to
refer the matter to the School District , and a copy of the letter
too the Safety Council.

Letter read from the American Legion asking $5,000.00 for
the tract of land they own just north of the city recreation
park. Motion passed to hand over to the Park Board for study
or recommendation.
Letter read on the raise of $25900 per month from the city
for the Recreation Director Mr. Wilson. Motion passed to give
it consideration when the new contract is drawn and presented
for the Mayor' s and clerks signature.
Letter read from the Planning Commission in regard to raising
money for a survey before the Federal Grant comes through.
Motion passed to place in the hands of the Finance Committee.
Petition read from Waller & Wife and Mr. Tonelli & Wife for
a vacation of a lane in their annexation. Motion passed to refer
petition to Planning Commission and fix a date for a hearing
Motion passed to adopt Resolution No. 394 fixing a date for
the hearing on the vacation of the lane , March 17 1958 at the
city hall at $' oclock P.M. .
Petition from several people of North Park Addn. requesting
the fixing of sidewalks, fixing fences that hang over the public
walk and erecting new street lights of the Mercury-Vapor type,
and etc. Motion passed to have the Engineer make a study of the
requests and report back at the next meeting for the alleviation
of the condition that the petition describes.
Petition received from a various number of people on the west
side of the city for annexation, from a point contigaaus to the
west boundry of the city to and across highway 99. Mr. Griffen
Mr. Dahlman and Mr. Hartlaub spoke for the petitioners. Motion
passed to have the City Engineer check the petition for
authentic signatures as law provides for such a petition.
Motion passed to have the clerk take a census through the
firemen this year, for the State Census Board, at a small fee,
for the census takers..
Councilman Curran reported that the committee had a meeting
with Hill & Lngman Engineers in regard to the sluffed off
backfill in the Canyon backfill over the pipe line that will
supply the elevated tank on East Hill. The out come of this
meeting will be given out at a later date.
Motion passed that. the claims be allowed and warrents drawn f
for same.
