Kent Washington January 21, 1957.
Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Mooney,
Councilmen Curran, Parsons, Pozzi, Scott, Shaffer, Strain,
Thornton;
Minutes read and approved- of the last regular meeting;
Report of officers presented and filed, Treaaurers, Clerk' s
and Budget ; City Engineer reported that wrote a letter To
Mr. Garth Anderson of Pullman, an& stated that he� would if
nothing came up to prevent on February 2nd. , for interview
with the Mayor and Council,
Petition from the school was studied by the Engineer, and
Mr. Sheerwood recommended it to be vacated.Attorney was in-
structed to draw the legals on the vacation of the alley for
the school, and Mrs. Ruth Morris.
Hearing to be held on LID 234 Feb. 18th. at .$'Oclock P.M.
by motion passed.and for clerk to publish and notify owners
of same.
Mr. Sherwood reported also that the broken pipe at the
Treatment plant was fixed and in operation.
Department of Conservation & Development send notice that
our surface water rights on Rock Creek was due, and if work
under construction was not complete to send $2.00 for a years
extension, Permit No. 2745, the question was raised by Mr.
Chet -Woods our Engineering firm member that it should be more
than surface rights, . so the warrent of two dollars for ex-
tension shall be held up for two weeks, until Mr. Woods can
check with the Depattment of Hydraulics Olympia.
Price was submitted by the Kent News Journal for 4110.00
for a table for the council room, that will match the new
chairs. Motion passed to instruct the clerk to order the
table as submitted by letter.
Ordinance No. 942 read and by motion passed to name the
part of the Black Diamond Rdl that is in the city Canyon Drive.
and Notth Central from the old city limits to 228th. street.
Councilman Scott reported that the Treatment Plant was back
in operation and they found acid going through the plant and
the Operators started out to find where it was coming from
and they met up with some oposition on gaining entry without
idenity, I4ovtion passed to purchase a badge for each operator.
Councilman Thornton reported that Auburn did not have tt�d;Or
dog Warden yet, so we was not to pay for the time that we
were not getting the service.
Councilman Strain reported on the progress on the Street
Lights that were to be replaced with Mercury-Vapor, and he
would have a complete report by next meeting.
Councilman Parsons reported on the Blue Banner Food Lease
and submitted copies to each councilman, and explained the
committees stand on the raise on the lease, and other items
in the document, and in tern to have the City Attorney write
a letter to the owners of the Blue Banner Food, and draw a
lease for their acceptance.
Motion passed to have the clerk write a letter to thee*
Library Board and request them to subinit`G a new location for
the Library, owing to the fact that other offices needed the
space that the Library now used..;.
Motion passed to call for bids to redecorate the main hall
upstairs, by acustical tile on the ceilling, two additional
lights in the ceiling as now being used, redecorate w lls
and trim,linoluem tile on the floor,install false ceiling
and lights and redecorate stairwell, also new stair treads,
and repair hand rails as per Engineers specif saunas
Councilman Curran recommended that the water meeting with
the Engineers be reccorded in this meeting minutes, as of
January 15, at 7 : 30 P.M. in the City Hall.
Councilman Curran read a letter from Hill. & Ingman on
the Rock Creek Source, this source U6W recommended that we
proceed because there is at least 3 MGD,and this would be
enough water for the City for the next 25 years, if no
industries would have a very high demand, this amount of
water would warrent the expenditure. Letter and report of
January 152$957, on file in the Clerks► Office. continued

Councilman Scott brought to the attention of the council
that some contractors have brought it to his attention that
the city should have some arrangments for paying for parking
meters space other wise than putting nichols in the meter
when on a construction job with their trucks and cars. Motion
passed to have the Police Committee and the Chief of Police
make a study of the condition.
Using streets without proper barricades where construction
is in. progress shall be stud*ed by the Building Committee
and the Engineer.
Motion passed to have the Clerk write a letter to Mr.
Kirk Campbell Manager of Stokely VanCamp Co in regard to
making North Secbnd on the East Side between Harrison &
Shinn a diagonal Parking and two hours.
Motion passed to sell old ford engine core to Michelsen
Equipment Co for the amount of $40,00, old engine from the
street truck.
City Clerk instructed to write a letter to Hi-way Dpt
Engineers to see if it would be feasible to install a
Blinker light at the old city limit line ion North Central
to cut down the accidents at this point.
Councilman Thornton made a motion to call for bids for
a .fire truck uuuing the plans and specifications drawn by
the Fire Chief. Motion passed.,
