Regular meeting of the City Council present IJlayor Rooney
Councilmen Curran, Parsons, Pozzi Scott, strain, Thornton;
Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting;
Report of officers presented and filed;
Motion passed to write a letter to the Kent Safety Council
and inform them that the council_ will take a delayed action
on the stop signs, Councilman Scott voting ney.
Motion passed to instruct the Ctr. eet Committee to act on
grader tites that are needed.
Motion passed to purchase material for three manholes on
the North Central Ave. Storm Sewer, and for the Engineer to
contact contractor on the street job for installation of
same.
Bids were opened and read for the purchase of chairs for
the council room. three bids were read and the Dent 1'�ews
Journal was awarded the bid this bid being low, amount of
1,157.00.
Councilman Curran reported on the request of the Cemetary
to lay six inch water pipe , Motion passed to accept the
request of the Cemetary Board.
Letter read from Stokley-Van Camps in regard to parking
on railroad Ave. North, Motion passed to table till next
meeting.
Letter read from Hill crest Cemetary Board in regard to
the exemption of Business Tax was referred to the Finance
Committee until the next regaular meeting.
Letter read from the Secretary of the Statewide City
Retirement System in In regard to taking part in the social
security program connected with our retirement system. I11otion
for clerk to call the secretary when a meeting could be had
with the Finance Commitee.
Motion passed to accept $350.00 from the insurance Co. for
settle ment of damage claim on light pole at East Meek,•r and
Central Ave . in which a truck hit and damaged same.
Letter read from Meridian Water Company requesting to grant
water connections on theer L�11 line . Notion passed to permit
share holders in the Company prior to October 1955 to connect
to their 4" line and pay the proper water connection and' sign
the affidavite that is required..
Ordinance '�o. 920 read authorizing the making of surveys
and reports to enable the council to determine the best
source of an additional supply of water and for the payment
of same. Motion made for the adoption, L•layor Mooney requested
the filayor pro-tem to act in his capacity as Mayor for a few
minutes, until he made comments on the ordinance as a citizen..
41his thinking that the Engineers that we have engaged at this
time should take care of the survey that the ordinance points
out and the contract we now have with the Engineering firm
should take care of all surveys for future water source.
Mayor Mooney went back to his official statius as Mayor,
and by motion passed by the council. the ordinance was tabled
for two weeks.
Motion passed for the water committee to melt with the city,
Attorney in regard to the contract with our Engineering Firm.
Mr. Francis and Hiles Drake submitted a Plat for oral
approval to the council.
Dr. Rowbottom was present at the meeting and described to
the council the work of their committee in getting a better
recreation program laid out , for the city and the community
and for all to share in the cost, and to take advantage_ in
the County program, and recommended t'r:at the city contract
with the county on a supervised program, Mr. 6,Vagner also
sopke on the same topic .
Coundilman Thornton brought up the new Salary increases and
controls for the Police 1iepartment . Iiotion passed to adopt the
report as reoommended by the committee. Report of the committee
on file in the clerk' S office.

Motion passed. to permit the Rifle Club to use City prop-
erty across the canyon from the dump for a rifle Range)
under supervision of the police department .
'Motion. passed to take a Census of the City this year
under the State Census Board, and the clerk to write a
letter to the CAP requesting ther.r and the local Civil
Defense to take the Census if they be interested,
