Kent Washington Jan. 16, 1956•
Regular meeting of the City Council. present Shaffer acting
as Mayor in the absence of Mayor Mooney, and Thornton pro tem
councilmen, Curran) Parsons, Pozzi, Scott; Strain;
Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting.
Report of officers presented and by motion placed on file,
Police annual report , Budget , Treasurer' s and Clerks;
Bids were opened and read for Parking meters, two bids were
submitted, one from Voglesong Products Corp. and one from
M.H.Rhodes Inc.Motion passed to place bids in the hands of
the police committee for study and report badk at the next
meeting.
Councilman Curran reported to the council that the Engineers
have more information on the radial- well, and by motion passed
to hold a meeting for discussion on same monday Jan. 30th. at
8 PM.
Motion passed to send a letter of appreciation for the fine
work they done on the .council room floor, by laying tile.
Councilman Pozzi brought to the attention of the council
the needed drainage on places like Naden and West Meeker,
on Chicago Street at Petersons place.
Sidesewer application was present from Davis Plumbing of
Auburn, by motiontpassed the license was granted.
Letter was read from Mr. Shane that was contemplating on
building severnl houses on the Lane property, and requested
of the council to use transite water pipe instead of cast
iron the difference in cost would be about half.The matter
was referred to the Water Committee for study and report back, .
o Water permit No. 2745 _ for surface water was ordered paid
for the renewal of the perms--E.
W'0 Letter read from the Goodwill Industries stating that they
WTI do not pay the business tax in other places. Motion passed
W� to exempt the Goodwill from the Business License and tax, and
WW other business of similar nature and scope. and for Clerk
to write a letter and inform them of the action.
09 Life insurance Co of- California stated that they did not
pay a Tax, this was refered to the attorney for answer,
- Telephone Company felt that they should not pay tax on long
distance toll calls, this issue was referred to the finance
committee for action.
j Mr. Mike Bigley explained to the council about the timber
that could be sold on the rock creek acreage, and also at
the Kent Springs, that he thought that stric�ked supervision
should be had over the selling of the timber.
Council announced that they had and inteview with an
Engineer from Spokane that was available for a position in
Kent, as a full time Engineer. Motion pa sed to have the Ma or
telegraph Miles Drake and see if he would be interested in he
full time ob,, ,and also the Mayor and Council contact Walt.
Ramsay on the issue.
Fire protection standby charge to apply to automatic fire
gsotection unitp that was not metered. , all manual o erated
at run through the meter not to come under the standby.
