Regular meeting of the city council present Mayor Mooney,
Councilmen Blessing, Curran, Lamb, Randall, Schultz, Shaffer,
Thornton;
Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting;

Bids were opened and read on 5 luminaries and equipment
for street lighting. Two Bids were received Westinghouse
Electric for the amount of $750.00 and one from Line Material
Co. for the amount of $622.88. Motion passed to place in hands
of light committee for study.
Bids were opened and read for 6000 ft . of water pipe and
valves, Pacific State Cast Iron Pipe Co $1.628 per foot ;
E.N. Hallgren Co $1.66 per ft. United State Pipe and Foundry
$1.66 per ft. H:D.Fowler Co for valves only, Water Works Supplies
for valves only. Motion passed to place in the hands of the
Water Committee for study .
Mr. Dunbar requested of the council for the laying out of
a part of Kenosia Street, so that the property owners could
determine their North Property lines. Motion was passed to
instruct the Engineer lay out a suitable street, and try to
,establish the north boundry of the property abutting the south
side of the street, and costs to be born by the property.
Motion passed to - grant`Mr. Dunbar permission to lay a
sewer line up the middle of Kenosia Street for a distance of
about 250 ft. East of Titus Street. , this being an 81, pipe
and having a lamphole installed in the far end, under the super-
vision of the City Engineer.
Motion passed to have the clerk purchase enough paint. to
finish the clerk1s office , and also have the light work paint-
ed on the outside of the building. 1
Motion passed to have the Health-Sanitation committee purchase
a pusher for the dump, to keep the dump in compliance with the
request of the King County Health Department. Motion passed to
instruct the Attorney to draw an Emergency ordinance for the
purchase of this equipment, owing to the fact that the outlay
fund in the Garbage fund is deplated.
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write the Milwaukee
a letter in regard to the installation of the signal at their
crossing on West Shinn.
Mr. Parish of the Mitche Company explained to the council the
cost of codifying the ordinances of the city, this cost would be
in the neighborhood of $2000.00 if printed by a mimiegraph,
and if printed it would be around $4500.00, no action taken at
this time.
Letter read from the Kent Jacees requesting of the council
to sit in on the meetings to create and encourage greater interet
in the administration of city affairs. Motion passed for clerk
to write the Jaycees a letter appreciating their activies in
civic affairs.
Letter read from the Kent Chamber of Commerce recommending
that the Council do all they can to exchange property with the
Western Sand & Gravel for a site along the Crow Road, and for
the clerk to call the school to see if they had any objections i
to the Sand & Gravel Co locating -in the location requested.
Motion passed -to authorize Mayor & Clerk to request the
County Planning Commission for a rezoning of the location on
the Crow Road, and at the Expense of the Western Sand & Gravel
Co.
Letter read from the Kent Chamber of Commerce recommending
that the council give permmission to Mr. Ed. Sipe to operate
a Trailer Court at his place of business at R.R.Ave. and Titus
Street.
Councilman Curran made quite a search of ordinances on trailer
courts, and come to the conclusion that our ordinance was out
of date and he stated that he would like to draw a new one, and
by motion passed the council directed Mr. Curran to draw a new
trailer court Irdinance.
Motion passed to grant Mr. Sipe a trailer court license, under
regulations of our present ordinance.

Received a petition from the people in the neighborhood of
R.R.Ave. & Titus St. stating that they had no objections
for Mr. Sipe to operate a trailer court at this location.
Motion passed to place petition on file.
Resolution No. 346 passed the vote of the council.
Ordinance No. 880 passed the vote of the council.
Ordinance No. 881 passed the vote of the council. .
Mr. Engstrom of the Jaycees presented to the council the
.the problem that faced the residents of the City in regard
to the poor grade of cheap comic books that was being sold
in the stores in Kent and other places, that they mostly
contained Murder and sex stories and pictures, and that was
not good reading for the kids.Motion passed to indorse action
of Jacees to try to stop the sale of this kind of leoks, and
for the police committee to work with them. before the vote
on the issue the City Attorney stated that this was mot the
way to control such publications, that it had to be controlled
at the home.
Motion passed to accept the bid on the Bleachers for the
Park from Beatty Bleachers Co. of Seattle for the amount of
their bid plus $100.00 for galvanizing instead of paint.
Motion passed to have the sewer committee have a meeting
with the City Engineer on June 9th.and call for bids on
the construction of swwers for LID 230, and bids to be
opened and read on June 24th. at eight ofclock P.M.
Motion passed to have the Treasurer transfer the money back
to the Wash. State Sewer Fund,'fas requested by the State
Finance Officer'; that had been transfered to the Sewer Revnue
Fund by Resolution.
Motion passed to have the city clerk instruct our insurance
company to place fire insurance on the fire station that is
under construction.
Motion passed to have the Mayor & Clerk sign side sewer
application of Mr. Grant Dunbars.
