Regular meeting of the City Council present 1"Jayor I%looney,
Councilmen Blessing, Curran, Lamb, Randall, Schultz, Shaffer,
Thornton;
Minutes read of the last regular meeting and approved;
Report of officers presented and filed;
Bids were opened for the replacement of the windows in the
south side 'of the city hall, two bids were received, Busch
Construction Coppany, $2,679.03 , and I,IcIntyre Construction
1$2,487.45 McIntyre Construction Co was awarded the bid.
Motion passed to read and adopt Ordinance No. 872, for the
vacation of - a part of Shinn Street , Councilman Curran protested
the passing of the ordinance owing to the fact that it might
create a bottleneck in the street if at some future date that
'the city or the State might construct a through street on
Shinn, and he also stated that at no time at the hearing
there was any good cause for the vacation of such portions of
the street.Letter read from the Planning .Commission once again
against the vacation ordinance. Roll-call vote was taken on
the passage of the ordinance, Councilmaen Blessing, and Curran
voted Ney, and Councilmen Lamb, Randall, Schultz, Shaffer, and
Thornton voted Eye.
11r. Ionson residing at South State And Willis Street requested
of the council for a group of people and himself, for permission
to construct a sewer in an alley, and they do theer own work.
Motion passed to have the Engineer make a feasiblity survey of
the profject at the cost to the group of people to be ben&fftted
and report back tLt the next regular meeting.
M,r. Eckland appeared before the council with a request that
he be allowed some of the ciPs insurance kusiness, . Motion
passed for councilman Shaffe to make a survey of the situation
and report back at the next meeting.
Councilman Thornton reported on the traffic officer on the
police department needing a motorcycle to handle the traffic
condition, that it would work out much to the advantage of
handling the situation if he had a motorcycle , and a motion
passed to purchase a used machine for the sum of 5{"489.25.
lJotion passed to call_ for bids on a residential fire station
to be constructed on city owned property at Kenwood and
Guiberson Street.
City engineer reported that the contractor was complete on
the sewer job on I<:enwood Ave. & Guiberson St. and recommended
for the council to accept . Motion passed to accept sewer as the
Engineer recommended and for the clerk to hold in escrow a
portion of the money until the streets were put back in ggod
shape
Motion passed to purchase a siren for the police car, the
one now in use b&mgg vrorA( out.
Motion passed to have the Engineer purchase a map for the
council table.
