HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council - Minutes - 04/06/1953 Dent Washington April 6, 1953 Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Blessing, Curran, Poz7,i , Randall, Schultz, Shaffer, Thornton; Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting; Police report read and filed: IIr. Sharp an attorney for the I'Iilvraukee Railroad was present in regard to the improving of Shinn Street by pavingg, and re- quested of the Council to pave the intersection at paving) and Shinn to meet with the now existing paving. Motion passed to allow vp to ti1)499.00 for the cities share , and give permmission for the Milwaukee Co to proceed with their improvement of the street under the direction and supervision of the City Engineer. Mrs. Bovell made a report to the council on the trip to St. Marys College California, where she attended a Federal Civil Defense School, a. very fine report was given, and requested of the council as her proceedure on her findings. Councilman Blessing made a report on the progress being made on the repair of the Blue Banner Roods Building, lie stated that it might run over tree contract , on account of unforseen timbers that were rotted under the floors. Councilman Pozzi made a report to the council on the meet- ing with with Libby officials , in connection with tretment plant and screening their contaminated water. Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to all the industries in the city in regard to having data ready and available for a meeting with our Engineers that are doing our treatment plant redesign, and also a meeting with the Pollution Control Commission, so that they can be of help to the I_�,ngineers in regard to water that is used in various ways , especially the water used in cans and boillers that does not go into the sewer system, and a copy of the letter to be forwarded to the Engineers. Letter read from the Cornucopia Committee requesting permission to construct a building on the Park Grounds for the purpose of storage. Iiotion passed to refer to the Park Board. Letter read from Carey & Kramer, and enclosed was three copies of a release for engineering services from Forbes and Brett. Ordinance into. 858 read and passed the vote of the council , for the amending Section 5 Of Ordinance No. 784 in regard. to zoning. Motion passed to instruct the City Attorney to draw ordinance creating an aritration board for adjusting appeals on zoning. Mr. IJynstra Superintendent of the schools was present and requested the council to vacate a portion of State Ave. and the alley between State Ave. and Central abutting school property. Motion passed to instruct the City Attorney to draw proper papers for presentation at the next council meeting. I,Iotion passed to purchase a gas jack hammer to be purchased from the water R street funds. I-lotion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the Chamber of Commerce in regard to the property that they recommend- ed to be purchased for street purposes on First Ave. and Shinn St. At this time the council has no monney for such a purchase. Motion passed to instruct the City Attorney to write a letter to the H.P.Railroad Co protesting the height and roughness of their crossings after be repaired. Motion passed to send the ,'Dater Superintlendent Mr. Rod to the Vlater Convention in Oregon. Motion passed to call for bids for a new Police Car.
