Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Blessing, Curran, Randall, Schultz, Shaffer, Thornton; Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting; Report of officers read and filed, Police report , and Water Superintendent ' s report on gasoline used during year of 1952• Councilman Curran reported to the council that the N.P.Ryway Co. had made an offer to sell a half section of land that contains Rock Creek Springs, with timber thereon for the price of $17,127.00 Motion passed to purchase land if sale of timber be negotiated at _the time of purchase, this purchase to be made to increase our �� water supply in the near future. LL� Mr. Empern appeared before the council to request permmission W- to sell books on palmistry, and give a reading free and informed 0 the council that he had rented a building on First Ave. South. ,� Motion passed to lay over for two weeks, and place in the hands of Ir 01 the Police Committee for investigation. John Brown was present at the meeting, this being his retireing date, the Mayor made a nice talk of appreciation of his faithful service during his 15 years #as street sweeper, and at which time the meeting was turned over to Mons Rod, and he presented a chair and a radio to Mr. Brown , from the city officials and employees, in token .of his fine work. Letter read from parties that were interested in having our roof tops marked with air markers, by motion turned over to the Chamber of Commerce for action. Dave Lenord 'of Rexall Drug Store had a request in for the renew- ing of a storm drain at Smith St. and State Ave. where he contemplates construction, of a new building. Motion passed to place in the hands of Street and drainage committee for investigation. Letter read from the. Polloution Control Commission re nesting of the council for a hearing on the Treatment Plant order # 9. Motion passed to have the mayor sign the hearing request. Report, from the Chief of Police stated that the signals on the crossing on West Meeker St. and the Milwaukee R.R. was still not workilig properly, and was very dangerous. Motion passed to instruct- the clerk to write a letter to the head office of the Company, stating that we could get no action from their local Division Superintenddnt. Motion passed to write a letter to the head office of the NP.Ry. Co. in regard to the request made previously on rough crossings at Smith James and Gowe Streets that they had promised to have repaired. Ordinance read and passed by unlnimous vote to change water rates Number 85.5. Motion to instruct the clerk to call for bids on 3/411 copper tubing Chase Type K. alternate bids on 2000 ft. and 5000 ft. Motion passed to instruct the clerk to call forbids, on fuel oil, stove oil, Diesel Oil, and Gasoline. Mayor reported on various meeting with different Mayors on the Northwest Power situation.
