Kent Washington May 19, 1952.
Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor pro tem
Thornton, and last portion Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Blessing,
Curran, Pozzi , Randall, Schultz, Shaffer, Thornton;
Minutes read of the last regular meeting and approved;
Report of officers read and filed, Budget, Clerkts 8-, Treasurers
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to call for bids for the
installation' of street lights at the R.R.Crossing at Meeker and
Gowe Streets. , as per specifications set forth by the light
committee.
Mr. Hunt from the Power Co was present and gave the council
and idea of what it might cost to convert the present system
over to a mercury-vapor.
Park Board members were present with plans for the recreation
center, and by motion passed. the council accepted the plans as
drawn, for future development.
Motion to have the clerk call for bids for a used street
sweeper, amendment to the motion JX� Ito rent sweeper for a
three month period, a vote was taken on the amendment and passed
vote on the motion and lost, . more discussion followed, and a
motion passed to reconsider the motion and amendment, for the
purchase of the sweeper by calling for bids.
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the
Firms that are doing street oiling, to inform them that they
shall place barracades and lights at proper places, when they
oil, and that the city be notified of which streets they are
going to oil in advance.
Motion passed to instruct the Water Committee. and city attorney
to look in the matter of Rock Creek.
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the
Garbage Contractor in regard to cleaning up the dump.
Motion passed to discharge the present dump caretaker for none
attendance to his job, this action to take effect of this daate.
Two letters read from the School Board, one setting the price
per connection to the school sewer, and one in regard to the
city accepting the sewer as part of the system. Motion passed
to postpone ,acceptance until the widing of the Highway is
complete, and clerk to write a letter to the board explaining
the action of the council.
Letter read from Mrs. Grace Folsom in regard to the council' s
previous action taken on Saar Street , giving permmission for
a playground, this action Mrs. Folsom did not approve of, she
wants it left for street purposes. Motion passed to have the
street co mitte.e look into the matter.
Reportll writing was made by the police dept. in regard to
the signals at the Milwaukeej, not working at times when a train
is approching the crossing at W, Meeker.
Mr. Sundlie was at the meeting and requested the council to
place drain tile in a lot on So. 3rd. Ave. for his protection if
he filled the natural water way up at this point. Motion was
passed to have the Engineer inspect the condition.
Resolution adopted for a quit claim deed to the State Hiway
for the widWing of the Hiway going up Smith Street Hill, for
two p� ces of property that the city owns., and for the Mayor
and clerk to sign quito claim deed for same.
Motion passed for the clerk to write a letter to the Hi-Way
Dept. in regard to a sidewalk along the hiway from the school
and why the Hi-way is not started at Central Ave. as first
planned for.
