Kent Washington April 21, 1952
Regular meeting of the City Council present Tlayor Mooney
_ Councilmen, Blessing, Curran, Pozzi, Schultz , Thornton;
P,Tinutes read and approved of the last regular meeting;
Report of officers read and filed, Treasurers, Clerk' s,
Budget , and annual report of the Kent Fire Dept.
The Sanitation Committee made an inspection of the Dump,
and reported to the council, that it was in very poor shape ,
and the gate too the dump was left open, and Mr. Braunschweig
the dump caretaker had not moved the gate to the new location,
for the purpose of keeping people from dumping on the water
pipe line right-way. Motion passed to instruct the clerk to
write the dump-caretaker a letter about the moving of the
gate, and the sanitation committee was to meet with the contra-6-
or in regard to the poor condition of the dump grounds.
Motion passed to instruct the Water Committee with the aid
of the Engineer to take what action is necessary to clear up
the property line at the headworks with 1,1r. Pemberton, ,and
if a quite claim deed is necessary for the Mayor and Clerk
to sign same.
Chairman of street committee reported that there were no
monies available for oiling streets this season, only .for
intersections of streets and alleys.
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to
the State Pollution Commission, and inform them that we ex-
pect to call for bids on the sewage treatment plant, and
more LID sewer jobs. .
Letter signed by various residents and property owners on
James Street requesting of the council to make some sort of
improvement on James street to delay the dust , motion was
passed to have the street committee study the matter and
report back at the next meeting.
Residents on So. R.R. Ave. requested of the council to
make use of Saar Street dead end at the tracks, for a play-
ground for the children in that vicinity, Motion passed to
grant permission, the city attorney advised that they check
with the Insurance 0o in regard to the liability coverage.
Letter read from the Milwaukee R.R.Co in answer to the
City Attorney' s letter requesting them to fix -their signals
on West Meeker Crossing, they stated that it would cost .quite
a sum of money to have them work while the switch engine was
using the track, the council felt that they should spand
some money to prtect the lives of the public that had to
cross at this crossing. , Attorney said that he would answer
the letter.
Motion passed to have councilman 8urran draft a letter to
send to each member of the fire dept. , in apprelation of
the fine work they are doing.
Motion was passed to instruct the Fire Chief to attend the
International Fire Chief' s Conferrence with expenses paid.
Hearing reopened on the vacation and the granting of an
easement for utilities, " vacation of an Alley". After some
discussion the hearing was adjourned till the next regular
meeting.
Resolution No. 327 establishing day light saving time
by motion adopted. ,
_- .... Ordinance No. 848 read relating to and regulating motor
vehicles, traffic, travel and etc. , Washington State Statutes
Relating to Traffic and Motor Vehicles, ( three copiesi filed
with the City Clerk of the City of Eent , prior to the passage
of Ordinance # 848. Motion passed by the unanimous vote of
the council present creating ordinance No. 848.
Mayor appointed Grant Dunbar on the Planning Commission to
replace Mr. Sebastian.
