HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council - Regular Minutes - 06/04/1951 268 ^�J Kent Washington June 4, 1951 Regular meeting of the City Council present I•Zayor Mooney, Councilmen Armstrong, Bell, Pozzi Randall, Seeman, Shaffer, Thornton; Minutes read of the last regular meeting and approved; Repott of Officers read and filed, police report ; Motion was passed to instruct the City Engineer to proceed to obtain lines on Kenwood Ave. to eliminate a bad projection of ground on the East side of same. Councilman Shaffer reported that the repair work being done on the Blue Banner Food Plant was completed by ITcIntyre Construction Co. Requests from Bush Hardware, Puget Sound Power 8.; Light Co, and the Police Dept. for marked off parking zones, was by motion passed referred to the police committee for action and report at the next regular meeting. Letter read from some unsigned person addressed to the Mayor, requesting him to have, the gambling stoped in Taverns and a card room unless he did so , they would expose him to the council. Letter read from the Mayor in reply to the unsigned letter and his request to have the press publish same and be placed on file in the clerk' s office. After somewhat lengthy discussion by the council members and legal advice from the City Attorney, Notion 17as passed to award the bid of L I D 229 sewers to the lowest bidder, Valley Construction Co. of Seattle Wash for the cpmpleshing of the unfinished job by Roberts Co Inc, . Under new buisness the newly elected officers took their seats, and roll call was taken; present Mayor Mooney, councilmen, Adams, Blessing, Schultz, Thornton.Emerson Thatcher attorney, Dave J. Mooney Mayor and Chas. i3ridges Clerk, at such time the Mayor made his committee appointments,in the council and appointed the heads of the departments. Wallace 3year term Planning Commission C.C.Wallace six year term Library Board Grace Sharp five year term Motion passed to nominat6 Alx Thornton as Mayor Pro- Tem. Clerk was instructed to have loyalty oaths printed accord- ing to Act passed by the 1951 legislature. Motion passed to discontinue street oiling program, at this time owing to lack of money for such purpose. Mr. Novak & Mr. Woods living on East Smith Street was present at the council meeting and objected to the action of the Planning Commission in regard to zoning along East Smith St. from a resident zone to a commerical zone , and appealed t o the council for a change of the commissions actions. Motion was past to have the clerk write a letter to the Planning Commission, and have them attend a council meeting for a discussion on there activities.
