Kent Washington December 4, 1950
Regular meeting of the City Council present, Mayor Mooney
Councilmen, Armstrong, Bell, Pozzi, Randall, Seeman, Shaffer,
Thornton;
Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting;
Report of officers read and filed, police report ;
Councilman Thornton reported to the Council that progress was
being made on the much needed Hazel Ave. drain, and it would be
completed in about a week.
Mr. Shoff was at the meeting and made a request for two men
from Bremerton, that had intentions of conducting a boweling alley
in the old A&P building on North Central. Motion passed to in-
struct the clerk to write a letter to the buisness men of
Bremerton, giving the approval of the council for the construction
of a bowlling ally in Kent ,an to assure them that the council
was in back of them in their venture and hoped for their success.
City attorney read a letter from the attorn6js of Roberts & Co
they stated in the letter that the Roberts & Co would proceed
with the work if given some six or seven force account parts
that was not the full intent of the contract that was signed in
July, .
Resolution No. 319 read and adopted by the unanimus vote of the
council to employe special associate council in connection with
Local Improvement District No. 229.
Resolution yr 320 read and adopted by the unanimus vote of the
council to direst the transfer from the Contractor to the Surety
of the employment of the work under the contract of July 24, 1950
for the installation of a sanitary sewer, Local Improvement Dist.
No. 229.
Motion passed to have the Engineer to instruct the Safeway
Contractor to barricade all walks that are torn up around the
building under construction at Smith St . And North Central Ave.
Motion passed by roll call vote, Armstrong remaining silent,
Pozzi voting ney, and Bell, Randall, Seeman, Shaffer, Thornton
voting yea.Instructing the police ept. and the Police committee
to inform this gentlemen that there is no soap, in regard to
bingo games.
Complaint in regard to the water running off the f'oof of the
Masonic Hall, and making the sidewalk unusable by motion passed
was placed in the hands of the street committee to investigate.
Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the
State Hiway Department in regard to having a four-way stop
signal placed at the intersection of Nest Meeker Street and
Washington Street , and or the West Hiway, in the place of the stop
and caution light, and amenment passed to make AOX timer stop &
go signal.
Motion passed to have the Park Board proceed with plowing and
discing of the secretion field up to $475.00.
Mayor Mooney made a report on the Valley Cities meeting held at
Renton last week in regard to the Power Buisness, and invited the
meeting to be held here at Kent December 27th.
On the request of the City Attorney a motion was passed to
place in the hands of the finance committee for a study and re-
commendation for a raise in salary for his office.
Murray Miller living on Clark Ave. requested of the council
to have the LID 229 ditch filled up if the contractor was not
going to do more work at this time, on account of it being a
death trap for the children in the neighborhood. Motion was
passed to have the street dept. and engineer have the ditch
filled up.
Motion for police commitee and street committee make a surve y
of the city streets and report at the next meeting.
