HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council - Minutes - 11/20/1950ems? 248 ' Kent Washington November 20, 1950 Regular meeting of the City Council present, Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Armstrong, Bell, Randall, Seeman, Shaffer Thornton; Minutes"read and approved of the last regular meeting; Report of officers read and filed, Clerk's Treasurers, and Budget reports; Councilman Thornton reported that the drainage jobs on South Central, and the drain from the reservoir was cpmpleted with a large saving to the city by doing it by day labor, and rejecting the bids. Letter was read from Pratt & Co in regard to attending the Valley Cities meeting at Renton Nov. 29th. at such time the power question will be discussed. Motion passed to adopt Resolution # 318 for the reinvestment of $ 50,000.00 in Government Fills. Mr. Houue vice president of Roberts & Co Inc. the contractor that is doing the work on LID 229, was present at the meeting and answered some of the questions in regard to the work on the sewer job, and why it was not proceeding as it should, the City Attorney read the letter to the council that he had written to the Attorney for the Roberts Co in regard to the council holding the Company to the contract that was awarded to them and not otherwise. Owing to the fact that the attorney's letter had not been answered the council did not take action on the verbal requests of Mr. Hogue., Motion passed to in- struct the City Attorney to write a letter in answer to Mr. Ferguson's letter of Nov. 15, repeating the demand of the City for a statment from the contractor as to wheather or not he is willing to proceed under the terms of the contract, and require an answer to be in the hands of the City_Attorney not later than November 21th., further that if answer is Pot received and is hot -in the affirmative, city attorney is in- structed to proceed under the terms of contract and turn it over to the Bonding Company. Motion passed to have the clerk write a letter to Wager and Co. in regard to the condition they.left the crossing at Hazel & Smith St.while constructing the sewer for the school. Motion passed instructing the engineer and the water Supt. draw up plans for renewing of more old water pipe. Request of Mr. Straub to renew a walk on Harrison St. and 6th. Ave. by constructing a four ft. walk, our ordinance calls for a six ft. walk. Motion passed to place the request in the hands of the Planning Commission for further study. Motion passed to give a vote of thanks to the -chairman of the street committee, the street crew, for the fine work, and money saved in the installation of the two drains, by day labor.
