HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council - Minutes - 10/02/1950 242 Kent Washington October 2, 1950 Regular meeting of the City Council present , Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Bell, Randall, Seeman, Shaffer, Thornton; Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting , with corrections as follows, . Bids on the sewer treatment plant were rejected by motion than the two unopened bids were returned to the bidders. i Report of officers read and filed, Clerkts Report, Budget, and police report. Councilman Randall reported that the well drillers hit water at 417 ft. and. it was in course sand and gravel and it looked like it ,might give us the required amount of water that we were expecting. Motion passed to have Michelsen Machine shop change the beds on the street truck too the water truck for the amount of $75.00. Councilman Thornton reported that he had contacted Mr. Brown the state highway supervisor in regard to the drainage on north central ave. and he stated that the Highway Dept. was not contemplating any great improvement on that part of the highway to effect the prodject of the cities drainage problem. Councilman Shaffer produced three kinds of cushions for the chairs of the council, for approval, and recommended that they were not worth the cost , and motion passed to not purchase the seat cushions. Three bids were received and read for the furnishing labor and material for the reroofing of the Blue Banner Building, and for tle water building. The Bid was by motion passed awarded to the Renton Roofing ComRany, 686.45, W.W.Snook from Orting $645.30, alai Independent Sheet °fetal from Seattle, $1309.00. Hearing held on the budget of 1951, no one appeared against the amount sbt forth in the budget, so ordinance fixing the budget was read and passed the unanimous vote of the council present , Tax levy ordinance read and passed the unanimous vote of the council present. Motion made to recend the action of the council , at a re- gular meeting of Feb. 20th. in regard to indorsing initiative measure No. 174, after some discussion and other motion was made to table motion inregard to this action, both motions were seconded, roll call vote was requested on the motion for to table. Bell yea, Shaffer yea, Randall ney, Seeman ney, Thortbn ney, . Roll call vote on the motion to recend action, Bell yea, Randall yea, Seeman, yea, Thornton yea, Shaffer ney. Motion was passed to purchase three desks for the officers in the city hall , Police Judge , Police Chief, and Clerkts of office. Motion was passed to purchase 124 ddditional street signs at a cost of $347.20. Motion passed to purchase $108.00 worth of crushed rock for West Willis Street. Motion passed to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the Railroad Companys in regard to being careless in flushing their toilets in the City. Report on the Hearing with the County Commissioners in regard to the City being excluded from a PUD. The Commissioners ruled againest the City in their request to be excluded. Speidelts report on the light prodject was referred to the light committee. . Glenn Chittenden requested of the council for the removal of parts of curbs along his property to mahe drive-ins for parking lot, by motion request granted.
