HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Meeting - Council - Minutes - 12/05/1949 YdU Kent Washington December 5, 1949 Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Mooney Councilmen Pozzi, Randall, Seeman,Thornton, VanBevers. Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting; Officers report read and file Police ; Bids were opened and read from various firms for the furnish- ing of fittings, valves and hydrants for the water system, motion was passed to recess the meeting for consideration of the bids, for 20 minutes, meeting reconvened and motion passed to place the bids in the hands of the water committee , and the engineer and water superintendant for study and report at the next regular meeting. Councilman Pozzi made a report on the meeting with the King County Health Dept. in the city hall , and recommended that a ,member of the council be appointed to work with this organization so that needy people could get better service. Resolution # 18 was read from the Kent Public Schools in regard to the winter road condition of the Kent Kangley hill road from the bottom to where it intersects with the 5-C they claim that when it is icy that it is very dangerous to trans- port school children in their busses. , and urge that this road be strai htened and widened and improved. -Resolution 1 19 was read from the Kent Public Schools in re gard to the Kent Cemetery Hill Road, whereas there has been requests for buss transportation service for the children liv- ing along this road, the board feels that it is an unsafe road to operate schooll busses over, and they recommend that the conditions of the road be improved. Motion was passed to place the resolutions on file , with an answer, and to write alletter to Julia Hanson at Olympia in regard to the Kent Kangley Road, and a letter to Mr. Wm. Sears in regard to the Cemetery Hill Rd. Petition read from residences on North Central requesting the council to have catch basins and storm drains placed on the west side of the street too control the water in the winter season.Motion passed to place petition on file and have the street committee give this situation a survey for the needed drains. Hearing on the passage of the ordinance on the approval of the final assessment roll for sewers in NorthPark Addn. to Kent , no written objections were received or oral , ordinance read and passed the unnanimous vote of the council present for the approval of the final assessment roll for sewers in LID no. 228. Ordinance No. 819 passed by motion for the amending ordinance N0.770 section four. Emergene Ordinance read for the street depatment in an amount of 41374.85 for the replacing of streets after a very severe winter, Resolution #- 307 read and adopted by motion to hold a hearing on the emergency ordinance at the next regular meeting of the council, and for the clerk to publish ordinance and notice of hearing. Councilman Seeman made a motion and passed the vote of the council to purchase police uniforms up to 4150.00 anda filing cabinet for jail records and some shells, for the amount of $115 .00.
