Regular meeting of the City Council present, Mayor Mooney
Councilmen, Armstrong, Morrill, Seeman, Sells, Thornton,
VanBevers.
Minutes read and approved of the last regular meeting;
Officers reports read and file ; Budget Treasurers and Clerks;
Councilman Morrill reported on their trip to Olympia, to
the Department of Hydraulics, to obtain an extension of time
on the water rights on Rock Creek, this was granted by letter
to extend the permit until December 31, 1951•
Recommendation of the street committee to vacate the ally
as petitioned by Mrs. Seims of 706 Guiberson St. Motion passed
to vactLte said ally, and instruct the City Attorney to drawup
vacation proceedure.
Motion was passed to place the letter from Mr. J.F.R.Appleby
Dep. Supervisor of Hydraulics on file.
Letter read from the Pollution Commission, and motion passed
to place on file.
Letter read from the Kent Chamber of Commerce to fix our part
of the Cemetary road before Decoratti.on Day. Motion passed to
have the street committee act on the improvement up to $500.00
Councilman Morrill reported on the lowering of the reservoir
roof, and stated that he had obtained a figure from a contractor
and it would cost in the neighborhood of $2500.00 to $3500.00;
and the committee recommended not to have the roof lowered, and
to award the bid to Mr. Lyle Hopkins for the reshingling of the
roof for $578.00. Motion passed to aceept the recommendation
of the water committee, and not lower the roof, and award the
contract to Mr. Lyle Hopkins for the cedar shingle job.
The contract with Mr. Partridge to rent a City safe, and
option to buy for $200.00, was placed in the hands of the
finance committee to have cleared up.
Mayor Mooney proclaimed cleanup week for the second week in
June.
Motion was passed to recall for bids for crushed rock.
Motion was passed to have the clerk write a letter to the
Northern Pacific R.R.Co to fix their spur track that crosses
First Ave. North in the 100 Block.
Motion to instruct the clerk to write a letter to the Millwaukee
about the poor signals they have installed on West Meeker St. and
the great amount of brush along their rightaway that obstructs the
view when .approching the R.R. Crossings.
Request for tile 'at Cedar & Jason Streets was referred to the
street committee.
Mr. Clark and the City Engineer presented a plat to be accepted
by the Council Tf Valley View Addition to Kent." Motion was. passed
to have the City Attorney prepare legal steps for the acceptance
of same.
Motion was passed to not sell the lot at First Ave. and Titus
Street , that has been used by the Park Board.
Motion was passed to have daylight saving time, start the first
of June.
