Regular meeting of the City Council present , Mayor Mooney, Councilmen Armstrong, Seeman, Sells,Thornton; Minutes of last regular meeting read and approved, exdept, appointment of the new City Engineer and the reapointment of a six year term on the Civil Service Commission, that by motion passed to have included in the minutes of this meeting. The Mayor appointed and approved by the Council the appoint- ment of Mr. Miles Drake as City Engineer, and the mayor re- appointed Mr. Norman Anderson to a six year term on the Police Civil Service Commission with the approval of the Council. Officers report read and filed; Budget, Treasurers, and Clerks; Councilman Seeman reported to the Council that the Police Car now was -in first class shape. The resignation of Councilman Worth was read to the council the reason for the resignation of Mr. Worth was on account of ill health. Motion was passed to accept Councilman' s Worths resignation, and to instruct the clerk to write a letter of regrets. Park Board recommended that they had no further use for the piece of- ground at First Ave. So. and Titus Street , that they . did not intend to keep it up as a park. The board recommended to the Council for the purchase of a piece of ground at First Ave. So. & Crow Street for them to use as a pla ground .park for small children the approximate to be about LOO.00, and recommended the purchase of various equipment for small children to be purchased for same. , and for the use of City equipment to properly grade and place the lot in condition for play grounds.Motion was made and passed to have the finance Committee get all information on the purchase of the said lots. Letter read from Mr. Forbes in regard to the work he did for the Richfield Oil Co, when they placed blacktop in the street rightaway, placed a storm drain catch basin for drainage of the area that was inproved he stated the the oil Co would not pay him for the inspection work he had done for the City. Motion was passed for the Clerk to write a letter to the Richfield Oil Co, and inform them that the inspection by the City was necessary by ordinance. , and to be paid by the property that had been improved. Petitions from various property owners asking for a LID sewer district ih different parts of the City. Motion made and passed to have the City Attorney proceed in the direction of holding a hearing by the Council and have all necssary data at hand. Bids were opened and read for the Poofing of the East Hill reservoir, all bids were reffered to the water committee for. study. . Bids were opeened for the purchase of sewer cleaning equipment one bids was submitted, and accepted by the unanimous vote of the Council, from the Waterworks Supplies Co of Portland Oregon, for the amount of W76. 65 plus Sate Sales Tax. Bids were opened and read for the purchase of crushed rock to improve the streets, and by motion it was referred to the street committee for action. Motion was passed to have the council as awhole study the possibility of selling the lot at First and Titus. j Motion was passed to apoint Mr. VanBevers to fill the vacancy of Mr. Worth on the council. Motion was passed to instruct the Clerk to write a letter to the Grey Hound Lines asking them if they could not give better seriice , and pull thier busses into the Depot at Kent, and a copy of the letter to the Kent Chamber of Commerce. Letter read from a group of people living on Thompson Ave. requesting of the Council to have the traveled part of the street graded in the cener instead all to one side ,Motion passed to have the street committee see that thier request be granted. Mrs. Allen do Mrs. Dolan were present at the meeting and requested of the Council to have something; done in regard to the dTiffy'�C,gn- dition of the gym shower bath rooms at the Senior Hi-School. over and continued- Motion was passed by the council that the City Health officer be instructed to inspect the shower room at the School. CLAIMS PRESENTED AND PAID AS FOLLOWS: Claim of E.G.Forbes withheld until information is completed as per billing. $15.00 for street survey.
