Kent Washington June 21 , 1948.
Regular meeting of -the City Council present Mayor Mooney, Council-
men, Armstrong, Edline, Seeman, Sells, Thornton, Wevt.4.
Minutes of the last regular meeting read and approved;
Report of officers read and filed; Treasurers, Budget, & Clerk' s.
Letter read from the State Highway Dept. in regard to the installs
ation of various signs on the Highway, the Highway Dept , gave a
sum of $ 50.00 to furnish all material and labor for the job.
Motion assed to adopt a resolution presented by the State, to
proceed with the installation of signs as they have outline and
the Cost to be $50.00.
Petition from property owners on Naden Ave. asking for a survey
and cost of a sewer, was referred to the Sewer and Sanitation commit-
tee for study.
One bid received on the used furnace and oil burner, $101.00
this bid was rejected, aha a motion passed to advertise it in a
Seattle paper.
Bids were opened and read from various Contractors on the laying
of' the $" water main from Central Ave. to the North East Hill
reservoir, bids were referred to the water committee and finance
committee for a report at the next regular meeting.
Mr. Murphey from the Veterans of For&*gn requested of the Council
to * give reconsideration to Mr. Keaton of the Blinker Cafe for a
beer license.Mrs. Maude M.Nelson Secretary of The W.C.T .U . presented
to the Council a resolution that they had adopted, to not allow more
places to sell beer. Following quite a discussion a motion was passed
for the next order of buisness be considered.
Motion was passed for the Clerk to call for bids for the construction
of'the extension of James Street Culvert.
Letter read from the East Hill Grangw expressing their appreciation
to' the Council for their very good work in not installing Parking
Meters in the City of Kent.
