Kent Washington June 7, 1948.
Regular meeting of the City Council present , Mayor Mooney,
Councilmen, Armstrong, Edline, Morrill, Seeman, Sells Thornton, Worth.
Minutes of last regular meeting read and approved;
Report of Officers read and filed;
Communication read from Mr. Ben Reynolds of 406 Shinn St. request-
ing the Council to make it possible for him to obtain a license for
the operation of pin-ball -machines in the City.Motion made and passed
to have the police committee study the ordinance.
Letter read from Mr.A.O.Thor Superintendent of the Milwaukee R.R.
explaining about the signals at the crossing of the Milwaukee at
West Meeker St. and they will have them improved in short order.
Letter read from the State Liquor Control Board, advising the
Council, why a class E license was granted to Mr.Frame at R#4 Box
1519 Kent.Motion was passed to instruct the Clerk to write a letter
to the Liquor Board in regard to the officials that were contacted
when license was granted.
Letter read from Mr. Walter Deebach of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
requesting of the Council to reconsider the application of Mr.Keaton' s
for to serve beer in his cafe.Motion was passed to place letter on
file. �%
Mayor' s Proclamation on daylight saving time read and placed on file
and the Council adopted daylight saving time by Resolution # 293•
Resolution read and adopted by the Council, to hold a .hearing on
the vacation of a portion of Alvord St. July, 6th. 194$•
Resolution read and adopted by the Council to hold a hearing July 6
1948, for the vacation of a strip of land on the West Side of the
Highway, both on the South and North side of Saar. Motion was passed
to have the finance committee give this action a thourowgh investi-
gation.
Water Committee recommended to reject the two water well bids, ow-
ing to the fact that they were bid on to much alternates. Motion
was passed to reject the bids of N.C .Jannsen and M.C.Turley &
P.E.Smith.
Motion was passed -for the City Clerk to call for new bids on the
drilling of a well, and to be openned July 6th. for consideration
after the Engineer, City Attorney, .and water committee prepared
new plans for same.
Motion for Clerk to call for bids for the laying of an $" water
main to the North East Hill Resvoir, from Central & Smith St.
Motion for the Clerk to order a telephone to be placed in the
water office of the Superintendant, located on R.R.Ave. So.
Motion was passed to grant Mr. Robert Tams living on Jason St. to
lay a service sewer down the East side of the Street to Temperance
Street , and the connection be inspected by the City Plumbing Insp.
Motion passed for the Engineer to make plans for the extension of
the culvert on James St.
Motion was passed to instruct the Clerk to call for bids on the old
furnace and oil burner, and for the special building committee to
have power to except same and dispose of same.
Motion was passed to instruct the Clerk to call for bids, for a two
year contract for fuel oil for the City Hall.
