Kent 'lashington July 21 , 1947.
. Regular meeting of the City Council present Layor Mooney,Counciimen,
Edline ,l�lorril l ,Seeman,Sells ,Thornton,'xlorth.
Nlinutes read and approved of July 7th. 1947.
Report of Officers read and filed; Clerk' s Treasurers and Budget.
Councilman Worth reported on the sale of bonds for the L.I.D. # 228
stated that by not letting a contract, that the bonding Companies were
not interested on the purchase of the bonds , and recommended that they
be sold over the counter.
Motion was passed to sell the bonds when ready over the counter to
the public, from the Clerk's office.
Motion by Councilman Seeman to place an extra police on duty during
the week of the 8ornucopis Festival to take care of the extra heavy
traffic . ; 'passed the unanimous vote of the council.
The street committee chairman reported that they had not completed
there survey of the Hazel street question, and would have a full report
for the next regular meeting.
North park residents objected to the small amount of oil that was
placed on ,the streets ,and also to little sand was used , this was re-
ferred to the street committee for action.
Letter read from the Milwaukee R.R. Co in regard to the estimated
cost of a spur track into the Blue Banner Foods plent , the letter was
referred to the finance committee for study.
Councilman Worth reported that they had a chance and an offer to
refund the 1940 water revenue bonds ,and cut down the interest on
33,000.QO et 3% to 1-0 % to make a saving of about $500 .00 the offer
was made from Earl F.Townsen & Co Seattle . ,after a short discussion on
the refunding,A motion was passed by the unanimous vote of the council
present that the proposal of Earl F.Townsend and Co , dated July,21,47 ,
of water revenue bonds , with maturity dates to remain the some as the
present 1940 bonds, be accepted.
Resolution # 282 read and adopted by the unanimous vote of the council
present ,to designate the Kent News Journal as the City Official News(
Paper.
Resolution # 283 read and passed the adoption of the unanimous vote
of the council present , whereas to redeem bonds from the water system
that were refunded in 1940 ,and is now past six years and may be called
and refunded to the amount of $ 33,000 .00 , resolution # 283 is a part
of these minutes on file in the clerks office .
Ordinance # 783 passed the unanimous vote of the council present,
whereas providing for the issue and sale of refunding water revenue
bonds in the sum of $33,000.00.
Petition received from residents living in and around the proposed
midget car race track, at James St protesting against same . Mr.
Holland who proposed the track reconsidered the location, and mentioned
that he was not aware that the people would object so severely
against the loeetion so he would drop the request.
The matter of the CoOp Hatchery connecting into the sewer was left in
the hands of the sewage committee.
Councilman Sells reported that the sewer pipe at Kennebeck & East S
Smith St, had to be renewed to the extent of about 345 ft. of 121' tile.
Mons Rod was instructed to replace with help of extra men. ,and plans of
the engineer were left with the Sewer Committee for action.
Sewer line from 729 North Central was reported to the Council as being
in very bad condition.Motion was passed for the owner to be notified.
__- Motion was passed for to instruct the clerk to call for bids on
material for the construction of sewers in North Park.
