Regular meeting of the City Council present, Mayor Dunbar, Councilmen,Edline ,Farman,Morrill,Sells ,Thompson,'North. Minutes of March 4,46 ,read and approved; Reports of Officers read and filed ;Budget Treasurers and Claerks. Communications read from Olympia Chamber of Commerce in regard to the termination of the BPA June lst.from the Kent Public Schools expressing appreciation from the Police Dept. for their help in the school election. Motion was passed to purchase the street mower from the Nelson Equipment Co of Seattle ,this equipment being the one most suited to our needs and the delivery date being the earliest to take care of the spring cutting along our streets.the price of the machine on thier bid being $1266.30 plus 3% State Sales tax. The three other bids were as 'follows ,A.H.Cox Co. $942.11. Howard Cooper Corp, . $1 ,071.40 plus Tax.and Clyde Equipment Co,$1706.25. h Councilman Thompson reported on the Miller Apts in regard to having fixed the drAin from thier place and it was much better in regard to sanitary conditions. The engineer reported that he would have the North Park Add. sewer plans complete for and estimate for the next regular meeting. Ordinance # 762 was read and placed on its final passage ,grenting the Milwaukee and St.Paul R.R.Co a new 15 year franchise. Councilman Thompson recommended that tile be placed on the east side of Alvord St.to take care of the surplus water.Motion was passed for the City to purchase about 100 ft. and the abutting property stand the expense of putting it in place . Motion to have the Clerk to call 'for bids for the resurfacing of Meeker St.from the old interurbin rightaway to Central Ave. Mayor appointed Grace Sharp in the place of Mary Sharp deceased, on the Library Board,for the unexpired term. Bids were opened and read from four pipe concerns ,and were placed in the hands of the Water committee to look over and recommend to the Council for purchase of 7000 f t. of water pipe. Rod recommended that at this time the City should purchase a new grader as the old one was very much depleted,and also ask permmission to purchase a portable light unit to use on night jobs. Motion was passed for the water committee with Mr. Rod to look into the purchase of a portable light unit,and was suggested by the council that they investigate Government surplus property in this respect. The street committee were authorized to investigate prices and sizes of graders that would be suitable for City use ,and report at the next meeting. Motion was passed to pay off the contractors of the South Central storm sewer at the rate of 951 of thier contract price ,as recommended by the City Engineer,and the balance when they completed the job. the amount of their contract $991.20.and this warrent to be drawn to the amount of $941.64.
