Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Dunbar, Councilmen,Farmen,Mor..till,Sells,Shoff,Thompson,Worth. Reports read and filed,Clerk's,Treesurer's and Budget. Communications read from the P.S.P.& Light Co,in regard to a str street light on McMillen and Kennebeek St.in regard to a priority and explaining in detail all reasons for the necessity of the installation at this time in regard to the war effort,suoh as increase traffic,aceidents,and number of people it would benefit. At this time the Mayor suggested that the condition would not fit this case. Invitation to send delegates to an Institute Of Inter-American Affairs at Pullman,May 7,80and 9 ,1944. Councilman Farman made a motion and passed ,to install a taxie service in the City by Mr. Gates if he could obtain enough gas- oline for the purpose from the ODT.and the Clerk was instructed to write letter to the Office of Defense Transportation,to show our needs for such a service . Councilman Thompson reported on the sewer extension on south fourth,and on the City Comfort Station that is being contemplat- ed,erected at First Gowe,and a motion was made and passed for the City Clerk to write a letter to the N.P.Railway Co ,obtaining permission to install a comfort Station on their property,now be- ing used as a City Park. Letter read from the Treasury Department of the United States, as to the price of a used 1935 Dodge Army truek, ($259.49)to be used to mount the OCD fire fighting equipment on that we now have from the Govft.A motion was made and passed for the City Clerk to draw a warrent for the amount to purchase the truck for the Fire Dept. Petition read and filed from 15 property owners,requesting the City Council to have the large pile of crates removed from just North of 402 Railroad Ave.North,they feel that it constitutes a real: fire heitard to the adjoining property. ,It was referred to the Tire Committee with power to act. Motion was made and passed to have the City Attorney give his opirinion in regard to fixing side-walks ,the City or the Property owner, Motion was made and passed to have the City Attorney draw up an ordinenee,to put the matter of a Community Recreation Center to a vote of the people to raise .015 from a tax levy by election,to raise $16826.09 for purchase price ,and remodeling,and equipment, and 'selaries for supervisor and caretaker for one year.
